Boys Will Be Boys–Week 4

I have one last project for you from Boys Will Be Boys.  I really struggled this week with my card.  Probably because I waited until last night right before bed to make it!  Nothing like waiting until the last minute…..

way to go 1

I created this card by welding the shadow of the phrase to a rectangle base.

way to go 2

I cut several layers of the lettering so I could make it pop.  I added more layers to parts of it so it had more dimension.

way to go 3

I love the shaped front of the card.  The only problem is after I finished it I realized I don’t really have anywhere to write a note on the inside….  Yikes!

Thanks for looking!  Have a wonderful evening!

Two Lips!

I think tulips are the best flower God ever made!  They are so beautiful and perfect.  Of course, the pink ones are the prettiest.

I’ve seen several cards made using this cut from Create A Critter and have wanted to use it for a while.  I made this card for a friend’s birthday.

tulips 1

I used a stack of paper by KI Memories.  I love the soft, yet bold colors of this stack.

tulips 2

Since I wasn’t going to mail the card, I added several dimensional layers.  I love layers!

tulips 3

I inked the edges of everything, added highlights using the white gel pen and added a couple of green pearls to the corners.

tulips 4

Thanks for stopping by today.  I’ll be back soon with more fun stuff to share with you!

Poll!

Yippeeeeeeeeeeee...it's Friday!  Has it been a really long week for anyone else?  I am so ready to leave work that it's pathetic.  I think I've been a pretty worthless employee for the last few minutes (moving at a snail's pace), so I thought I'd take a break!

I've received several emails over the last few weeks from new Cricut users.  One of the questions I've been asked is "I'm just starting out, what are some cartridges you would suggest?"  Wow - there are so many great ones, that's tough!  But, here are my top 5 (in no particular order) along with a creation from each:

1. Paisley - I can remember the week I bought my Cricut, this cart had just come out.  I saw the box and LOVED it instantly.  It's very versatile and has great cuts.  Only one word of caution - it can have lots of layers!

2.  Simply Charmed - When this cart first came out, I wasn't sold on it.  I don't like everything to have smiley faces!  But...I found it on sale really cheap and I am so glad I bought it.  I use it like crazy since I've gotten my Gypsy and can hide the faces, if needed.

3. Just Because Cards - I know alot of folks did scrapbooking and then got into cards.  I have always just been a cardmaking kind of gal!  I love the images and word art on this cartridge.

4. Birthday Bash - This is a newer one for me and I'm really loving the cuts!  There are a lot of really cute card bases to choose from that don't have to be used for birthdays.

5. Live Simply (Lite Cartridge) - This has super cute cuts on it!  I have a bunch more projects I've made with it, but I'm working the tutorials now, so hopefully you'll see them soon!

What's really funny is as soon as I finished uploading all these pics, I started changing my mind about my top 5!!  It's so hard to choose.  And I haven't bought new carts in a while, so there are TONS of new ones I want.  Gotta start a list...

So....now that I've shared, I've love to hear from you?  What are your favorite carts?  What would you recommend to a new Cricut crafter?  Leave me a comment and let me know.  I will choose a couple randomly to receive some cards from me!

Have a great afternoon!

Cheryl

Father's Day Card... Very Late!

As I mentioned on Tuesday,  I had a couple of people order cards from me for Father's Day and I wanted to share a few of the cards.  I shared one Tuesday using the cartridge of the month, Boys Will Be Boys.  I made several that were just alike and unfortunately, only remembered to take pictures of two of them, so here's the second one.

I have to admit, I took the inspiration for this card from a card I saw using the same sentiment.  I cannot remember where I saw this, so if it was you, let me know!  I want to give you credit for the idea!

I used Blackletter for "dad" and Alphalicious for the other lettering.  I cut the bomb from Indie Art.

I added some accent dots using my white gel pen.  I also added some black "bling" (for lack of a better word).

Sorry I'm so late sharing this with you!  I think this little bomb is really cute.  Wait.... Can a bomb be cute?  I'm sure it can.  It would only be cuter if it were pink!  And sparkly!  Anyway, thanks for stopping by.  I'm so glad you did!

Sunny Card!

At the end of last summer, our lawnmower died, so we decided we would get a new one this year.  Well, this year is here and we haven’t bought a new one yet.  Of course, the lawn was looking rough last week (to put it nicely), so we borrowed a mower to at least knock the grass down to a reasonable level until we could go get a mower.  Then, last night I got a text message saying “Keep the mower, we got a new one”!  Thank you Lord for the blessing of a new mower for FREE!  So…I decided to make a thank you card.  And it had to have grass on it, of course.

sunny grass card 2

For the card base, I used Birthday Bash.  I love this card shape.

sunny grass card 4

The tree is from Simply Charmed.  I added some purple buttons instead of cutting the flowers that go with it.  The clouds and sun came from Create A Critter.

sunny grass card 7

I cut the grass from Plantin Schoolbook.  The stamp is from the dollar bin at Michaels and I put it on pop dots to make it stand out.

sunny grass card 6

I’m really happy with this card.  It looks really bright and cheery in person.  The pics don’t do the colors justice.

One last thing…..the giveaway!!  I want to say thanks to all of you who entered.  I feel truly blessed to be able to share my creations with you through my blog and am so thankful for you guys!  Chosen randomly, the winner is….

Boys Will Be Boys - Week 3

Today, I wanted to share a Father's Day Card I made using this month's highlighted cartridge, Boys Will Be Boys.  I made several cards for orders I received (and for my father and father-in-law), but only took pictures of two for some reason.  Blonde moment, I guess.  =)  Anyway, I will share the second one tomorrow.

I found this paper with nuts and bolts (I think that's what they are) on clearance and bought it several months ago.  I figured I could find a manly use for it.

I cut the hammer and screwdriver from Boys Will be Boys and then added some accents with my white gel pen.  Don't you just want to kiss the person that came up with white gel pens?  I do!

I don't own a single stamp about father's day, so I printed the sentiment from my computer, cut it and slapped it on.  Voila!
One last reminder, I'll be drawing for the giveaway when I get home from work tonight, so be sure to leave a comment so you're entered to win.  Have a blessed and peaceful day!

Cheryl

Cake!!!

I haven't done a challenge in a long time, so I decided to try my hand at it again.  I made this card for the challenge #14 over at Birthday Sundaes.  I used the cake from Smiley Cards.

I added a highlight to the icing with my white gel pen.  I also added glitter then glossy accents to the candles and the cheeks.  I just bought my first bottle of glossy accents.  Love. It. So. Much.

The challenge is to make a shaped birthday card with the wording on the front, so I added the celebrate stamp to complete it.

Thanks for stopping by!  Don't forget - it's not too late to enter the giveaway.  I'll be drawing tomorrow!

Blessings,
Cheryl

Blog Award!

Hi there everyone!  I just received a blog award!  Woo Hoo!!  It came from Stacey over at Stacey's Creative Corner.  You should go check her out.  She's soooo sweet!  Thanks, Stacey!

The award states that I'm supposed to share 7 random things about myself, so here we go!  Everything you never wanted to know about me...ha ha!

1. I think I've said it before, but I have an affinity for office supplies.  Pens. Staplers. Desk Organizers. Pens. Paper. Notepads. Pens. Paper Clips. Scissors. Pens.  You name it!  If it comes from Staples, I'm sure to love it!

2. My favorite movie is You've Got Mail.  I just love Tom and Meg together.  I love it (and watch it) so much that I find myself quoting way too frequently.

3. I love musical theater!  My favorite musicals are Oklahoma (not the movie version, it's much better live) and The Music Man.  I always wanted to be on Broadway singing and dancing.....  =)

4. I think Dr. Pepper is like sweet nectar from heaven.  I am currently working on breaking my addiction.  Not enjoying it so far.  I love you mother, but NO, Diet Dr Pepper doesn't taste the same!  =)  (She tries to help me out by saying that but I'm not convinced)

5.  I have been married for 7 years, have no children and (gasp!) don't know if I want any.  I certainly want a dog.  And I will name her Anastasia.

6.  I am currently on Weight Watchers and am 1/10th of a pound away from losing 20 lbs.  1/10th!!!  So close....  I would highly recommend the program if you would like to lose weight.  I find it very easy to follow and it works.

7.  I'm a really high strung, type A personality.  Making things with paper calms me and I find it very relaxing....when my desk is clean and I have a tidy workspace!

Now, I'm supposed to pass this award on to some blogs that I like.  I am at work, so when I get home, I'll edit this post and add the blogs.

Thanks for reading about my quirks.  =)

Blessings,
Cheryl

Don't Forget!

I just wanted to remind you all that I'm having a giveaway and I'll be drawing names for the prizes tomorrow evening.  You can go to the post here if you haven't entered yet.  Thanks to all of you who have entered and answered the question.  I love to read all of your comments!

I'll have some projects to post later, but this is all for now!

Blessings,

I want Ice Cream!!!

Just wanted to do a quick post and share a birthday card I made for my friend (who also happens to be my husband’s cousin…so my cousin, sorta…).  I have been wanting to use this cute ice cream cut from Birthday Bash since I got it.  For the card base, I actually used the coffin card shape from Life’s A Party.  I used the hide feature on my gypsy to hide the wording and create the mat.

birthday sundae 1

I put the ice cream dish on with dimensionals to make it pop and added a stamp to the bottom.

birthday sundae 4

For the inside of the card, I cut the sentiment to go along with the stamp on front.

birthday sundae 3

birthday sundae 2

I know all of you are spread all over the world, and I’m sure some of you are enjoying wonderful temperatures where you are.  Me, I’m in Oklahoma, USA.  Oh boy…it’s hot here!  Maybe that’s why I have my mind on ice cream…

Have a blessed Day!

Giveaway!

Hello everyone!  I hope your day is going along fabulously!  My work day is almost over, then I get to go home and make birthday cards, so I'm looking forward to that.  I wanted to let you all know that last night, I was cleaning out my desk and Wow...I have alot of stuff!  I decided to pull out some new and gently used items and have a giveaway.  I still have a couple more drawers to clear out, so there's no telling what you might get!  I have some adhesives, clear stamps, ribbon, etc so far.  To enter the giveaway, please leave me a comment telling me a cartridge you'd like me to explore in the coming months.  If you'd like your name to be entered twice, you can post a link to this on your blog and let me know about it.  You don't have to be a follower to win, but I'd love it if you were!  Good Luck!  I will be drawing next Tuesday, so you have 7 days to enter.

Blessings,
Cheryl

Boys Will Be Boys–Week 2

Good Morning!  It’s Tuesday, which means it’s time for the cartridge of the month project for this week.

As I’ve mentioned before, I’m the Children’s Pastor at my church and teach the older kid’s class.  There’s a little boy that I haven’t seen in a while, so I decided to make him a card using this cart.  I used the dump truck cut and the font as well.

dump truck 2

After I made this and got ready to load the pictures, I realized I used the same black and white paper as last week’s card!  Too funny.  Gotta love scraps, huh?

dump truck 4

I added stitching and accents using my white gel pen.

dump truck 5

I used the font that is on this cart and welded the shadows together, then added the blue letters individually.  I added stitching with a white and black pen.  (Don’t look at how crooked some of my faux stitching is….)

dump truck 1

Overall, I really like this card!  I think this dump truck is super cute!

dump truck 3

Here’s what I put on the inside to complete the sentiment.  I have to tell ya…gluing those skinny little letters is tedious, to say the least.

Thanks for stopping by today.  I hope you all have a wonderful day!

Blessings,
Cheryl

Hello!

Hello everyone!  I hope you had a wonderful weekend.  I did!  On Friday and Saturday, I attended our annual women's retreat with my church.  We had a great time!  Lots of food (that's certainly not on my Weight Watchers plan) and lots of fun with the girls.  Each year I teach a couple of craft classes and that was fun too.  Today, I went to church and had a fabulous day.  I just wanted to say hi to all of you and let know that I will be taking a couple of days off and then I'll be back!  The preparation for our retreat each year is very time consuming and because of it, my house is a wreck.  I need to focus on getting things back in shape here for the next day or so and then I can craft.  So, until then, Happy Crafting!!!

Blessings,
Cheryl

Have a Blast!!

Happy Tuesday!  It’s time for a new cartridge of the month.  I just ordered Boys Will Be Boys, so I decided to try it out this month.  I don’t have any kids of my own, but the majority of the kids in my class are boys and I know I will get a lot of use out of this.  I’m noticing a lot of the cuts could be used for girls too.

I made a simple card using the rocket cut.

rocket blast 2

I LOVE this cute little rocket!  Wouldn’t it be great in pink?  with sparkles?  Ooh…I gotta try that!  I’m sure there’s some little girl out there that would like a pink rocket!

rocket blast 3

For the sentiment, I used the font from this cart and cut “BLAST”.  “Have a” is handwritten.  I added the stitching and accents on the letters.  Looking at this closely, my white stitching is kinda crooked on that red mat….yikes!  Just ignore that, ok?  Pretend it’s on purpose…or something like that.  My type A personality makes me wanna take it off the card and fix it, but I’m resisting.  It will stay as is.  So there.  (I’m determined to cure this perfectionism…)

rocket blast 4

If any of you have this cartridge, I would love to see what you’ve done with it!  Send me an email or leave a comment with a link and I’ll post it on the blog with next week’s project from this cart.

Have a wonderful, fantabulous day!  I know I will.  Tomorrow is my last day of work until next Tuesday and it can’t come soon enough!  I will be going to a ladies retreat with my church this weekend and teaching a couple of craft classes.  It’s a great time every year and nice to get away.  Be back soon with a new project for you all…

Blessings,
Cheryl
